Action Item - Ethical and moral legislation held hostage

Ethical and moral legislation is held hostage many times, but the most recent example is one that shows how the culture of death wants people who are Pro-Life to give up life principals in order to make a "deal with the devil".

The following is an action item that requires your immediate attention. Instructions on what you can do to help are at the end. Please read this important message and then take action!

Ethical and moral legislation is held hostage many times, but the most recent example is one that shows how the culture of death wants people who are Pro-Life to give up life principals in order to make a "deal with the devil".

(S. 1317) is a bill which will save lives and help people now as opposed to embryonic stem cell research, which has yet to help one single person. Umbilical cord blood is providing treatments for at least 67 different diseases.

The culture of death, Democrats in government, want Republicans to pass a bill which will allow the murder of innocent human beings who will be used in Nazi-like experiments. Embryonic stem cell research has become their primary focus in regards to medical research, and they are looking to it as the fountain of youth and the healing mechanism of mankind. They have rolled out (literally) celebrities in favor of embryonic stem cell research who talk about how they could be cured if only we would federally fund this horrible research. California has already agreed to pour billions into this research and other states are moving forward with this and other life-ending research, like cloning, all under the sales pitch that it is for the good of mankind.

If you agree that embryonic stem cell research should be legal then do nothing. You will get your wish. If you believe that this "Life-Saving Cord Blood Bill (S. 1317) should be passed and not held hostage by the Senate Democrats then I strongly urge you to read this message from Tony Perkins, the President of the Family Research Council:

From the Family Research Council via the American Life League:

Urge the Senate to Pass the Life-Saving Cord Blood Bill (S. 1317)

It began as a strategy and has become a scandal. As this is written, Senate Democrats are holding hostage a bill that will foster life-saving treatments for victims of such diseases as sickle cell anemia, Lorenzo's Oil, and leukemia. and genetic diseases such as Krabbe's and Hurler's disease. The bill is S. 1317, the Stem Cell and Therapeutic Research Act of 2005, introduced by Sen. Orrin Hatch. This much-needed legislation has been bogged down by Senate liberals who are demanding a vote on a separate bill to expand tax funding of stem cell research that relies on killing embryonic human beings.

Senator Bill Frist attempted to "hotline" S. 1317 to speed its passage in the Senate, but Democrats objected. This is especially sad because S. 1317 involves no ethical issues. This uncontroversial legislation passed through the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 431-1. When it comes to stem cell research, it's a bill every sensible person can support, and the reason is simple. S. 1317 would increase federal funds for the collection of stem cells from umbilical cord blood. Unlike embryonic human stem cells, these cord blood cells are already in use to provide treatments for at least 67 different diseases.

People on all sides of the bioethics debate support cord blood stem cell research. But while Senate Democrats are maneuvering for a guaranteed vote on their hotly disputed bill, this good bill is languishing and people who need help are not getting it. That is why basketball Hall of Famer Julius - "Dr. J." - Erving joined with Republican Chris Smith and Democrat Artur Davis, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, to urge swift action on this bill.

Please take the time to send a message to your senators now. Tell them to end the "hostage situation" on S. 1317 and send this commonsense bill now to President Bush for his signature. And forward this alert to your friends and family as well - we need an outpouring of support to send a message to Senate liberals to end their blockade of this bill.

Thank you and God bless you.

Urge the Senate to Pass the Life-Saving Cord Blood Bill (S. 1317).

Sincerely,

Tony Perkins
President

P.S. Please forward this Alert to your friends and family as well - we need an outpouring of support to send a message to Senate liberals to end their blockade of this bill.

Now do something about it! Click here to go to a page where you can look up your representatives. Make sure you call and/or members of the Senate not the House. If you are not sure, call and/or email anyone with Sen. or Senator in front of their name.

Here is what you might want to say:

"I'm calling to urge my Senators to please pass Senate Bill S. 1317 without conditions or demands."
