Blogspot - Pro Life Regardless with Letter

Here is the complete letter I received from Senator Warner. I only included part of the text from the letter in my post on ProLifeBlogs.com.

Click here for the 2 page letter. It is over 1MB big and can take at least 5 minutes if you use dial-up for your internet connection.

Every month, one of the things we do to participate in the Monthly Call for Life at http://www.marchtogether.com is email our representatives, which is certain to elicit a response by letter from a state representative. One of our state representatives is a Republican, so we expect to get the token "we're doing all we can to end abortion" speech.

Not this month.

Senator John Warner from Virginia has a message to us proLifers which strengthens my argument that proLifers can't just push the R button and expect Republicans to end abortion, we have to speak out against abortion no matter what party is in office.

The direction of many Republicans is demonstrated by this statement in the letter:

"I believe very strongly that our goal as a nation should be to reduce to the extent possible the number of abortions that are performed in our country."
"reduce" Sound familiar?

President Bush has also brought up the "reduce" word too. He has not pushed forward any kind of abortion ban and has even commented that our hearts weren't ready for a ban. I'm glad he has spoken out against partial-birth abortion, and has helped push laws to end this evil practice, but it can't end there. Abortion is wrong at every stage of development, not just late in the pregnancy when the person is more developed.

Mrs. Bush has also become a master of what I consider to be the new "proLife" lie.

In a 2004 interview she was asked if she was proLife to which she responded "Yes, I think abortion should be rare.".

Rare, not illegal

Here is her answer to whether or not Roe vs Wade should be overturned back in 2001

"No, I don't think it should be overturned,"

When asked about abortion, Condoleezza Rice stated it should be "as rare a circumstance as possible," although without excessive government intervention. "We should not have the federal government in a position where it is forcing its views on one side or the other."

The new "I am proLife" position is that abortion is bad but we shouldn't do anything to stop a person's right to choose if polls don't support a total ban on abortion.

Abortion is not a party issue and I believe it never has been. I believe if we don't demand an end to abortion now, the issue will get buried in a quagmire of sliding scales of morality.

We can't lose the main fact in the abortion debate.

Abortion is intentionally killing a human being

What if previous injustices were framed the way abortion is today? Let's look at moral issues that have been dealt with in the past.

Civil Rights

Just because the majority of people in the world supported slavery in the past doesn't mean it was the right thing. As a matter of fact, slavery is still in use in other countries around the world.

http://www.infoplease.com/spot/slavery1.html

Just because the United States, England and other countries have stopped slavery doesn't mean we have ended it everywhere in the world.

"At this moment, millions of men, women, and children—roughly twice the population of Rhode Island—are being held against their will as modern-day slaves."

We ended slavery in America not because our polls showed Americans were "ready" to stop slavery, but because it was the right thing to do.

All the way up to the 60s blacks in America were considered second-class citizens. They had to sit in different areas, drink from different water fountains and were murdered and beaten because of their color. It took determination and sacrifice to end the extreme racism in America. Martin Luther King Jr. and other brave Americans, white and black, marched for freedom, even in the face of death, anger and violence.

Who will march for the unborn?

Jewish Holocaust

Germans killed and used Jews for medical experimentation by the millions. Did Germany take a poll and decide that this was wrong? No, as a matter of fact, if America hadn't intervened, almost every Jew in Germany would have been killed!

Abortion

America is a Republic, not a Democracy. The difference is great and unfortunately is not taught well enough in school. We don't watch the winds of change to decide morality. We don't say that we are now more "modern" and that what was wrong in the past is now right just because a couple hundred years have gone by. Our leaders are supposed to defend the defenseless, help the helpless and feed the hungry, regardless of what opinion polls show!

If a representative doesn't say that abortion needs to be banned completely don't believe he/she will stop it. They will make the claim of "proLife" to get elected and then specify what they really mean by that when they get into office. The proLife movement has been manipulated by politicians for too long and it's time to stop believing them!

Every time you look at your watch I want you to know that every 30 seconds a person is killed by abortion in the United States.

There are such things as a moral absolutes. Racism is wrong. Anti-Semitism is wrong. Abortion is wrong.

Abortion was wrong in the past, it is wrong now and will be wrong in the future.

It's time for us to put the "move" into the proLife movement and speak up for life on a regular basis. Our Senators are changing their direction and we need to let them know that we don't want them too!

Here is the rest of the absurd "proLife" response by Senator John Warner:

"I am opposed, however, to a constitutional amendment that would criminalize abortion because there is no consensus among the American people that such language should be added to our Constitution. The legal prohibition on abortion will no better bring an end to abortion then the prohibition on alcohol worked in the 1920's.

As former education Secretary Bill Bennett has noted, to bring an end to abortion, we must first change public opinion and the conscience of America".
To compare abortion to alcohol consumption shows how so many people do not accept that a person in the womb is a living human being.

Abortion is the death of a human being, it's not broken bottles or booze pouring down the sink.

"I believe there are people of good faith on both sides of the abortion issue. In fact, the views on each side are so sincerely and deeply held that it will only be when the two sides really start listening to each other and talking to each other that we will ever make real progress in reducing the number of abortions in the United States. I believe that we must respect the convictions of those opposed to abortion and not force them to support this procedure involuntarily through their tax dollars. To that end, I have voted to prohibit the use of federal funds to pay for abortions except in cases involving rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother".
I don't believe there are people of good faith on both sides of the abortion issue. I believe that one party has fought tooth and nail to defend abortion and that the other party has fought to minimize abortions, though they haven't, for the most part, fought hard enough to make abortions illegal.

I believe the only way we are going to get all our representatives to understand that we want them to end abortion is by speaking up about it. Join us in the Monthly Call for Life at http://www.marchtogether.com. Call, email, fax, write or march in support of Life once a month on the Call for Life day, which is the first Friday of every month. Our voices will get louder and louder through our proLife unity!

If you don't take action for the unborn, if you just watch it all happen, then you are turning your back on 4,000 people who die every single day. I say to all of you who know abortion is murder, speak out and stand up for the unborn. They need you. They cannot do it themselves!

Stop debating. Stop arguing. Stop wasting your precious time on those who just want to challenge you. Spend your time figuring out what more you can do to help the many proLife groups in their proLife efforts. Also join us in the Monthly Call for Life at http://www.marchtogether.com.
